Verandah is tucked away in the moss trees on the Omni Resort Amelia Island Plantation. Be sure to get a reservation, since there are not many restaurants by the resort , this place fills up quick. Waited forever, but the cornbread was worth the wait! According to the waiter, the cornbread comes from the owner's family recipe. Our waiter was so nice and apologetic for the long wait to be seated. He even brought out some corn and crab chowder soup as a token of his appreciation. It was VERY rich and I only had a few bites to save room for the Flordia Mash thing I ordered. The Flordia Mash was a seafood medley soaked in a spicy broth. It was a lighter dish, which was what I needed after all the cornbread.

Had visited for years and then took a few years off. Menu has changed for the worse. No Verandah salad, cold french fries, raw green beans and no real signature dish. If I could have given 2.5 stars, I would've. The manager gave ys a dessert, peach cobbler. Great presentation, but peaches were not great. Sad to see a wonderful restaurant fade. Hopefully Omni can turn it around.

After arriving around 9:15pm, they were kind enough to accommodate us. They even made a custom Vegan option for my boyfriend. Great service, good food and nice decor.

Delicious sweet corn soup. Romantic sofa chairs. Shrimp and grits are incredible. Deviled eggs are unique. Very good service.

This is a nice place especially if you're staying at the Omni resort. The service is excellent and they accommodated a vegan. The server was very knowledgeable about the menu and how each menu item was prepared. It was a nice introduction to our first night at the Omni Resort Amelia Island Plantation.

The verandah restaurant we expected was not the same. Omni took over and apparently thought it was good idea to eliminate the verandah salad. Bad idea unless you replace it with something better. They didn't. The shrimp boat capital of the world is where they are located and you have to ask the server for fried shrimp. They make the servers upsell call liquor and do not offer a house wine. Ok. Why call it verandah if they offer a brand new menu that is inferior and more expensive? I won't be around to see them reintegrate the old menu items. Note to former chef. Open your own restaurant.

I read the reviews. The cornbread is great as described. But for such a high price, I was underwhelmed with the entree. It was "okay" not great, and for $113 for a family of 4. I want to be overwhelmed. I had the grilled grouper and my wife had the fried shrimp. I am sure other dishes there are great. But ours were just ok.

The food and service was excellent!!! I had devil eggs and grilled grouper and they were perfect. My friend had the seafood carbonara and she cannot stop talking about it. Thank you Marianne, your recommendations were on point!!

I don't often write good reviews or bad reviews, you have to be very deserving of either for me to take the time to write! The Verandah definitely deserves a five star rating and great review. We found we were staying an extra night at the Omni after a conference so had time to take in one more dinner and booked at The Verandah. EVERYTHING we ordered was tasty, delicious and well thought out. Our cocktails were balanced and well crafted; a perfect start to our dinner. Then we were brought out a lovely little amuse bouche of cream of corn soup lashed with a basil infused oil, gorgeous! We had the deviled eggs and the oyster chowder, both creamy, flavorful and delicious. The eggs were presented individually in glass tea light holders that had been set into driftwood, very beautiful and creative presentation. The manager told us the chef had created the serving pieces himself! The oyster soup was not heavy but light, a cup was actually a small bowl and I shared it with my husband, we both enjoyed the appetizers. Nick, our waiter, carefully explained our mains and where the fish had come from after I asked him myriad questions about the sources. When the menu says "local", they MEAN local, right down to the individual fishermen that line caught our meal! We were also told the produce is farm fresh, local and seasonal. The only fish that isn't completely local was the salmon, it's South American, but it's farmed where the fish are not crammed in pens and allowed to catch their own food. Not your usual farmed salmon but much cleaner and healthier. The delicious white stone ground grits served are from Anson Mills in South Carolina, and the company provides native heirloom grains. The fact that the chef is so meticulous in sourcing their ingredients, supporting local small fisherman and American businesses is heartwarming. He is walking the walk and not just talking the talk. Both Nick our server and Emily the manager, took the time to talk to us about the menu, where the food is sourced and the passion in which the staff have tested their recipes before presenting to the public. They are all truly dedicated to their position and the restaurant, very refreshing to see such dedicated employees. Our mains included the crab crusted grouper with a lemon sauce and I chose to have my fish served over the stone ground grits instead of the whipped potatoes. The fish was super fresh, the grits so divinely seasoned with smoked butter and had a texture similar to risotto. My husband had the creamy cajun pasta with mahi mahi, shrimp and andouille sausage, he said there was more seafood than pasta, a rarity! Both were delicious as well as the side of farm-fresh grilled Brussels sprouts that we ordered. We were both satisfied and stuffed but didn't want to miss out on the old fashioned Southern-style peach cobbler, so we got an order to go with a bourbon vanilla ice cream. Everything was delicious, seasoned perfectly and very well presented. The prices were half of those of some so called "Southern" style restaurants we go to on South Beach in Miami. I read the previous reviews and have to address some of the comments. I asked the server why some people were disappointed in the new menu. He said that when the Omni did their renovations, the new executive chef wanted to head in another direction and focus more on Southern style cooking, indicative of the area, versus the past chef's menu of Asian-influenced meals. Fair enough, a new chef should get to pick what he'll be serving in his own restaurant and the only menu item to stay from the old menu was the crab crusted grouper which I ordered. It's a classic dish and fit in with the theme, especially when served over grits. Also, there is no gratuity added to the bill automatically but we were happy to tip generously for the great service. Our bill was just over $100 and included two cocktails, two glasses of wine, two appetizers, two mains, one vegetable side and one dessert. Unheard of for where we live in South Beach! I thought it to be very good value and highly recommend this restaurant for lovers of seafood, locavores and anyone that loves great, fresh food and divine service. Worth every penny.

We have been coming to this restaurant for 6-7 years and the restaurant has completely changed the menu. No veranda salad which was a staple and menu is completely different. No special favorites on the menu. Hopefully things will change as they continue on. Very Disappointed with our experience. Tough having having preconceived ideas for our restaurant.

Excellent resort restaurant. Make sure you get a reservation. They fill up. The service is great considering all the crowding and intensity of the tourist testiness. Go for the seafood platter if you want to get a taste of the universe of seafood options here. The banana coconut ice cream was awesome. Comes in a chewy caramel weaved basket thing.

This was our first time trying this place even though we've lived here a few years. We never really hear much about it as far as being recommended so we never tried it. Boy were we missing out. The food was excellent. I had the grouper which was fabulous. Someone else at the table enjoyed the shrimp which was a huge portion. Another one of our guests had the seafood carbonara which was also he said delicious and flavorful as well as plentiful. The desserts were all enjoyed as well. Our only complaint was that if you are not a guess of the resort you must use the parking lot outside the gate which makes for a long dark walk up to the restaurant. This is especially difficult for elderly or handicapped guests. We told the manager that we thought that that was a bit rude considering they want us to frequent their restaurant yet that wasn't very welcoming. We are hoping that this inconvenience will be rectified soon since the manager and wait staff mentioned that they had gotten several similar complaints and that they were going to be taking them into consideration.

Well, I'm captive here due to a conference. There isn't a huge selection of eateries within shuttle service from the Plantation Hotel. Last night we ate at the world's most expensive restaurant at our Hotel. *See Ocean review. Tonight we ate and drank like Queens and my friend and I are over full, over satisfied; true American citizens doing our part for the economy. Happy hour at $5.00 for a mojito and another $5.00 for a perfect pear (which my friend said tasted like fruit punch Robitussin.) Both drinks were VERY GOOD, if you have recently had cough medicine, I recommend the mojito. Everything was good. But the review is tainted by what I now believe to be a case of salt poisoning. From either the lobster tail or the clarified butter I dipped it in. Currently I cannot seem to drink enough water. In the morning I suspect my ankles will resemble kankles. I'm giving this restaurant 2 stars in case I end up in congestive heart failure and am hospitalized. A copy of my advanced directive is on file at the Veranda.

My husband and I dined at this restaurant while staying at the Omni. The food was tasty, service was great and the setting was beautiful. Will highly recommend it.

We made a reservation on Open Table, but ended up arriving 15 minutes prior to our reservation time. The hostess seemed a little flustered that we were early but after telling us she couldn't seat us until our reservation time, she somehow made it work and took us to a table within five minutes. She was polite the whole time and didn't make us feel bad for coming in early, but her reaction to us coming early was strange. After ordering drinks, they brought us a little sample of the corn soup, which was heavenly. They also brought a basket of white bread and cornbread - don't waste time on the white rolls, but do make sure you try the cornbread; these folks know how to cook with corn! When our drinks arrived, my sister's was made incorrectly (she asked for a rum and coke with a splash of grenadine, and what they brought was rum with grenadine). We told the waitress that she misheard the drink order and it was not correct, and she did not offer to remake it, she just added a tiny bit of coke to the drink and called it good - which it wasn't. Besides that, the rest of the service was great. The food came next. We started off with the deviled egg appetizer, which was very tasty, then a caesar salad which was solid and nothing special. For our main dishes, I got the seafood carbonara, and my sister got the signature grouper dish. She enjoyed her dish, but wished she had ordered mine because it was fantastic. Great flavor, lots of fish in the dish, and perfectly cooked pasta. She got dessert to go, and while I can't remember exactly what it was, I remember that it was decent. Overall, a solid choice. I would come here again, but next time I'll probably trade the salad for the corn soup!

This is really more of a 3.5 star review, but we kinda left on a poor end note, so 3 for Yelp purposes. We had the sampler to start, and it was definitely one of the better appetizers I've had. The fried green tomatoes were perfectly fried, the crab cakes had big chunks of crab and the shrimp wasn't overcooked. The bread service and shot of corn soup was very nice and made me wish I'd ordered a bowl of the soup. Hubs had the tuna, and I had the crab-crusted grouper. Both were very good, and hubs mentioned how good the sides (mashed potatoes and corn succotash) were. We got the peach cobbler, which was probably one of the worst desserts I've ever had. It was seriously lacking any flavor and the topping was very dry. Not good--we actually had to force ourselves to finish it. Our waitress seemed attentive and eager to make suggestions. Towards the end of the meal, I felt like she was flustered with other tables and did not take as good of care of us, rushing us with the check and saying a curt goodbye. I really like the cool, airy ambiance of this place, but it was totally ruined by toddlers. I don't think this is an appropriate place to bring small children, but that didn't stop multiple people from bringing multiple children under the age of 3 who screamed and ran around tables. Really ruined the mood.

My boyfriend and I ate here while staying at the Omni in March. First if all, definitely make a reservation. When you arrive you will want to sit right down. Our server Ray was exceptional from the beginning and throughout the meal. He pointed us to some amazing suggestions including: BBQ shrimp, the fresh oyster bar, The crab encrusted Grouper and the Seafood carbonara. There wasnt anything on the table that we didn't absolutely love.... Best dish was the Grouper. Don't miss it. Great cocktails too - overall lovely meal and wonderful attentive service.

Only 2 stars for good service. I've eaten at this place many times as a kid, I'm now 32 and went back to try again. This menu is so dated, please get with the times of fresh, quality, local cuisine. Why are you serving peaches and strawberries on a menu in January? The crabcakes were dry and I think I had 2 leaves of greens on my plate. Not a well composed plate, especially for the price. My husband's snapper was the driest fish he's ever tasted. Need a new menu and lots of help in the kitchen before you can even begin to charge those prices. Oh and the bartender needs help too, could not produce an old fashioned.

Was pleasantly surprised with Verandah. We were staying the Amelia Island Plantation Resort in early December and decided to have dinner on the resort grounds. Since it was off season there were only four other tables occupied so we received very attentive service from our waitress and the staff. The food was a little bit pricey, but the restaurant makes up for the prices with their 40 bottles of wine under $40. We ordered the mixed seafood appetizer, seafood gumbo and the steamed scallops with mashed potatos and mixed veggies. We brought a slice of key lime pie back to our hotel room and my husband devoured most of it before I had the chance to try it. All very good, but I wish my scallop dish did not contain beans. The beans were delicious, but our romantic night abruptly ended when I was in desperate need of some Gas-x or Beano. Side note: the restaurant automatically bills a 20% gratuity. I normally tip 20% anyways, but I was just surprised it was automatically added on a two top. Turns out the entire resort adds a 20% grat so expect the same for the spa, roomservice and any restaurant/ coffee shop.
